Episode 13A - The Mothman Prophecies (2002) & Ravenous (1999)

Happy New Year and Women in Horror Month! The team sends their apologies for the late start. For February, Axis and Moaner have decided to watch Mark Pellington’s The Mothman Prophecies (2002) & Antonia Bird’s Ravenous (1999).

As this month covered cryptids, Moaner and Axis talked a bit about their favorite modern mythological monsters. Regarding Mothman, Axis noted the sometimes comparable forms of Mothman to a thousands-year old cryptid, the thunderbird. Moaner mentioned that (when Covid-free) Point Pleasant, Virginia celebrates an annual Mothman celebration at the Mothman Museum. Axis also made mention of The Moth Cam - a 24-hour webcam that monitors the statue of Mothman (including the statue’s shapely rear-end).

For our monthly good cause, Axis decided the most wonderful idea would be to use the Southern Poverty Law Center’s map of confederate monuments to encourage listeners to call or write in to their local representatives and encourage them to replace the confederate statues in their hometown with Mothman and/or a their local cryptid. In fact, such a petitions already exist.
