Horror Authors Welcome!
For many, finding a writing group is easy as Googling for a chapter in one’s own neighborhood. Unfortunately, some aspiring authors are prevented from beginning potentially fruitful careers in writing because they’re either too busy working more than one job, commute for several hours at a time, or a traditional writing group is located so far away from them that it wouldn’t be practical to attend. Sadder still is that there are writing groups where horror authors are misunderstood, disparaged, or rejected outright for their choice of genre. To those people I say, come to Moanaria!
A safe space for horror lovers, whether you’re beginning your writing career - or a seasoned novelist - Fright Club is one of the only writing workshops in the field that focuses exclusively on horror. From the very beginning, Moaner will tailor a schedule that fits the needs of you and nine other members to ensure that your ten weeks are filled with community and respect. Attendance and regular submission are compulsory to sustaining membership in the workshop, encouraging a well-paced writing diet. Likewise, required critiquing will allow you to develop your ability to self-editing and peer-review skills, as well as how to think critically about what scares one when reading a horror story. Finally, our varying weekly prompts will inspire you to innovate, and keep your ideas fresh and dynamic.
Although membership in Moanaria’s Fright Club will not lead directly to future work or publications, the abilities and contacts you’ll acquire through our community will be invaluable. In a closed group of ten, you will be able to hone and refine your talents with individuals who have just as much of a passion and determination to succeed in the genre as you do. If you feel you’re ready to apply, head to Moanaria’s Terms and Conditions, please read them carefully, and then fill out a Fright Club Application.

Moaner Lawrence's Fright Club workshop did everything he claimed it would and then some. The cumulative writing prompts are wonderful; each week you build on the skills you already have, with guidance from Moaner and tons of examples and discussion. I've already had three of my Fright Club stories picked up--by CREEPY Podcast, Quill & Crow Publishing House, and Cemetery Dance Publications. Well worth the investment.
You know when you wish for something MORE to catapult your writing to a new level? Fright Club will do just that. Moaner Lawrence is not only a master at presenting methods to draw out the best in you and your prose, but he excels in building a community among writers where the environment is safe and where the story is the thing—that special thing. I used every single story I wrote in Fright Club in one way or another. It’s one of the best uses of writing and learning time I’ve ever had!
Like Charon on the River Styx, Moaner T. Lawrence guides you along a carefully plotted, but wildly adventurous route through ten weeks of writing assignments. On your journey, you will be accompanied by a mix of other talented passengers each helping the others out to insure no one is lost or left behind. When you finally pass through to the other side, you emerge bolder than before, with new insights into your work. Quickly now, hop aboard before it's too late!
I feel that the discipline of this process and the continual constructive feedback considerably improved my writing and gave me a more professional outlook as well as a portfolio of work deemed good enough for submission for publication. If you're looking for a place to improve and guide your writing, I cannot recommend Moaner T. Lawrence and Fright Club highly enough.
Honest feedback from people who want honest feedback in return.
Moaner's workshop is an immersive dive into modern horror writing.
Through a series of carefully structured exercises, discussions and
review, he weaves a solid foundation for participants, whether they are
new to the genre or looking to fill in gaps. Moaner goes out of his way
to build community and address individual needs. I highly recommend his
workshops.
Fright Club is a great course for learning to write all facets of horror writing. Whether you are a first timer, or even a pro, anyone can learn something from the weeks doing this. Moaner Lawrence was a great teacher. Fright Club was worth my time, and I enjoyed doing it.
Fright Club is a great learning and motivation experience. You'll meet new colleagues who will push you out of your comfort zone and motivate you to keep learning and growing.
If you’re thinking of joining Fright Club, do it! I had a wonderful time working through Moaner T. Lawrence’s ten-week series of storytelling exercises and appreciated the chance to have live discussions with a group of writers who love horror as much as I do. Moaner is a thoughtful group leader with an impressive knowledge of horror subgenres and tropes. He and the group members created a supportive workshop atmosphere throughout the program. Connections and conversations begun in the workshop have continued far beyond the ten weeks.
Fright Club was a great experience. The exercises and writing assignments pushed me out of my comfort zone. I wrote stories I NEVER would have written without these prompts and the encouragement of my fellow writers, and of Moaner. The group also provided a much-needed structure. I am not a self-motivated writer, so deadlines get me moving. I highly recommend Fright Club as a means to push your writing to another level.

Fright Club has opened doors and inspired my writing in so many ways. What Moaner had been able to do with his weekly writing exercises, fellowship with other writers, and expertise in writing is beyond amazing.

Moaner is very caring and often goes the extra mile to help us gain the skills and knowledge necessary to advance in our careers. Beyond that, he has taken the time to get to know and befriend us on an individual level. Through his class, Moaner has connected a global community of writers that I hope to know and call my friends for a lifetime. If you are on the fence about signing up, don't be. This class is well worth the time investment.

My participation in Fright Club is one of the most profound experiences of my writing career. The exercises ranged from simple to juggernauts that forced the imagination to stretch to new dimensions and beyond. Each week, it was both an education in creativity, horror, style, voice, as well as the artistic possibilities of genre writing and the ultimate power of the storyteller. There is no other writing group on the planet that can do for you what Fright Club can.

Moaner Lawrence’s critique group helped me take a critical look at my writing. As a result, I’ve refined my skill set, honed my editing skills, and produced more submission-worthy material.

I loved my Fright Club experience. I spent 10 weeks hanging out with other writers online, learning about my genre, and stretching myself by trying exercises and playing with concepts that I would normally stay away from. I experimented quite a bit and, sometimes, fell on my face. That’s okay. My fellow Fright Clubbers were there to scrape me up and challenge me to do better. I have no regrets.

This 10 week workshop was a huge advantage for me in several ways, I got 10 writing experiences and three of the stories I am currently submitting to publications. The fellowship, the exercises and the leadership all have helped my writing and my goals. The critique of my work was honest and appreciated. Thank you for helping me think about the horror genre in such detail and of course, I had a lot of fun!

Fright Club pushed me into writing in genres and on topics that I'd previously shied away from because I felt no confidence in those areas. It was like plunging into the deep end of the pool and finding out that you could swim after all. In fact, one of those pieces was recently published. I've tried several writing courses, and Fright Club is the one that's brought out the real writer in me. I highly recommend it.
Fright Club is a game-changer for horror writers. Whether you're just starting or a seasoned pro, this workshop creates a welcoming, supportive space to hone your craft. Unlike traditional groups where horror can be misunderstood, Fright Club embraces the genre wholeheartedly. The ten-week program is tailored to fit busy schedules, fostering discipline with regular submissions, critiques, and dynamic prompts that keep creativity sharp. You'll not only refine your skills but also build a network of passionate horror writers who share your vision. If you're ready to grow in a genre you love, Fright Club is the perfect place to start.
