A belated Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! If anyone was anticipating this episode earlier, Moaner apologizes for putting the ‘late’ in Late Night this month as he was under the weather. In recognition of how politically turbulent November can be for everyone, Axis and Moaner decided to plunge into films that cover killing your friends, family & neighbors. We began with James DeMonaco’s The Purge from 2013 starring Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, and Edwin Hodge; and followed that with Adam Wingard’s You’re Next from 2011 starring Sharni Vinson, AJ Bowen, Ti West, and Barbara Crampton.

Episode 09A - Cooties (2014) & Little Monsters (2019)

The Summer of Strange has come to a close. Now begins the Season of Spooky! …And what could be spookier than Back-to-School time during a pandemic!? Therefore, Axis and Moaner will be watching Jonathan Milott’s Cooties (2014) starring Elijah Wood, Rainn Wilson, and Alison Pill; and following that with Abe Forsythe’s Little Monsters (2019) starring Lupita Nyong’o, Alexander England, Josh Gad and Diesel La Torraca. (Ironically, this was on Moaner’s planned programming back in January!) As far as worthy causes go for September, Axis suggests donating school supplies to underfunded schools in one’s area. You can visit Classroom Central for more information. Also, September 6th is National Read A Book Day. Moaner and Axis are fans of combating illiteracy, and so one can also visit the American Library Association for book donations, or even visit Little Free Library to learn about how to create a Library Box in their area.

During their reviews, Moaner brought up a fun anecdote he remembered about actor Ty Burrell on Ellen involving child rearing and cayenne pepper (just a sprinkle!); actor Dominic Monaghan pranking Elijah Wood; actor Josh Gad interpreting actress Lupita Nyong’o’s rationale for taking the role of Miss Caroline while she had a slight case laryngitis; and recommended that everyone head to YouTube and check out Dena Blizzard’s channel, One Crazy Mother, especially her episode Stop Complaining About Back-to-School Shopping. Axis also talked about the story of Henry from Sundance’s Alive Inside, and discussed music and memory are linked.

For those craving more shark, Moaner enjoys playing Wiesi/Mausland’s free-to-play Shark series, whilst listening to Spanish Ladies by Fall on Your Sword on loop. And for horror fans interested in watching MORE horror movies with sharks, be sure to check out Susan Snyder’s Sharksploitation Sunday series on Madness Heart Press.
